Fitted for the hills you actually play.
Kestrel Hollow is a small studio on Walnut Street where clubs are fitted for sidehill lies, wet turf and golfers who walk. Everything is built by hand in the back room.
What we fit
Four fittings and a build bench. All of them are tuned for hilly ground and wet turf.
Driver
Shaft weight and loft for players who carry up and down the fairways, with an eye on spin when the ball lands on soft ground.
Learn moreIrons
Lie angle set for sidehill and downhill shots, not just flat ones on a mat.
Learn moreShort game
Wedge bounce and spacing for tight lies, soft lies and the occasional lie in a puddle.
Learn morePutters
Length and lie for sloping greens, tested on our own two-slope mat.
Learn moreHow it goes
About an hour and a half, give or take a coffee.
Say hello
We ask where you play, how you get around the course, and what keeps going wrong.
Hit some balls
With your own clubs first, then with a few of ours.
Adjust
One thing at a time, with the numbers on a screen you can see.
Take it home
A printed sheet, and a build quote only if you ask for one.
Named for the birds in the cornice
When Dana Whitaker took the lease on the old hardware store on Walnut Street in 2016, a pair of kestrels was nesting in the cornice. She decided to leave them be and called the place Kestrel Hollow after the little cleft between two buildings where they came and went.
Dana finished a mechanical engineering degree at WVU and spent two years working for a club builder in Pennsylvania before she opened. Cole Hutchins came on in 2018 from a machine shop in Fairmont, and Mira Dellinger joined in 2022 as an apprentice. Between them they fit and build everything the shop sells.
Overheard in the studio
Cole watched me hit a few off the sloped mat and said my lie was a degree upright. Of course it was. I play on a hill.
Eric P., Cheat LakeDana asked about the course I play before she asked about my handicap. That told me this was a different kind of fitter.
Linda G., MorgantownThey built me a wedge for tight lies and it feels like a different club than the one I bought off the rack.
Chris B., Bruceton Mills
